WHAT IS HYPNOSIS ?

Hypnosis is a state of focused consciousness, your hypnotherapist will assist you in learning how to achieve this state by guiding you into it. Once this has been achieved, you will then receive what are called hypnotic suggestions. These suggestions will enable you to use the power of hypnosis in your life and make the changes you desire.

Hypnosis is a tool that can greatly help you, just like it has helped millions of other people to take back control of their lives. Hypnosis can also help you change any old habits and to provide you with the motivation you need to do the things that you may have been putting off.

Hypnosis has been sanctioned and used by the medical community since 1958 to help patients overcome chronic pain, create anesthesia and heal psychogenic illnesses. Hypnosis has also been shown to be effective in reducing stress and stress-related illnesses.

IS IT SAFE ?

Hypnosis is safe. It is very similar to experiencing a daydream. Usually you will feel relaxed when doing hypnosis. Hypnosis in and of itself is a very pleasant experience. It is a time to let go of the other thoughts of the day and focus on the issues you came in to work on.

Scientists, medical professionals, psychologists and hypnotherapists have been using hypnosis for over 200 years and no one has ever been hurt by simply going into hypnosis.

In addition, your hypnotherapist is a highly qualified and certified professional, bound by professional ethics and the laws of the state in which it is practiced.

CAN I BE HYPNOTIZED ?

Of course you can! You already have been. It's easy to go into hypnosis and it is a normal state of mind that everyone has already experienced. In fact, hypnosis is such a normal state of mind that most people usually don't even realize that they are hypnotized.

Normal, everyday hypnosis occurs when you are focusing on a book or a television program and you don't even notice things happening around you, but you do know that you are in full control and that nothing can be done, or said, if you choose not to.

When you come in for hypnosis, all you need is the willingness and ability to follow instructions. Anyone can experience hypnosis and use it to improve his or her life.

WHAT IS NLP ?

NLP stands for Neuro-Linguistic Programming, a name that encompasses the three most influential components involved in producing human experience: neurology, language and programming. The neurological system regulates how our bodies function, language determines how we interface and communicate with other people and our programming determines the kinds of models of the world we create.

Neuro-Linguistic Programming describes the fundamental dynamics between mind (neuro) and language (linguistic) and how their interplay affects our body and behavior (programming). What makes NLP so amazing is that it works in the lighter levels of trance, alpha and even beta (fully awake). Most people believe that NLP can be even more transformative than hypnosis, which makes NLP an amazing modality to use in conjunction with hypnosis.

WHAT IS ENERGY HEALING ?

We offer Reiki and Pranic Healing, also known as energy healing. Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen but felt "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.

Pranic Healing is a highly evolved and tested system of energy medicine that utilizes prana to balance, harmonize and transform the body's energy processes. Prana is a Sanskrit word that means life-force. This invisible bio-energy or vital energy keeps the body alive and maintains a state of good health. In acupuncture, the Chinese refer to this subtle energy as Chi.

Pranic Healing is a simple yet powerful and effective system of no-touch energy healing. While Reiki uses the 7 chakra system, Pranic Healing uses an additional 4 chakras, making Pranic Healing more pronounced for some people. Most people can actually feel prana or life energy absorbing into their body during a session.

Energy healing is based on the fundamental principles that the body is a self-repairing living entity that possesses the ability to heal itself. The healing process is accelerated by increasing this life force that is readily available from the sun, air and ground to address physical and emotional imbalances.

While Reiki and Pranic Healing is spiritual in nature, it is not a religion. It has no dogma, and there is nothing you must believe in order to use Reiki or Pranic Healing. In fact, these modalities are not dependent on belief at all, and will work whether you believe in it or not. Many people find that experiencing energy healing puts them more in touch with their spirituality, rather than only having an intellectual concept of it.

WHAT ARE CHAKRAS ?

Chakra (cakra in Sanskrit) means “wheel” and refers to energy points in your body. They are thought to be spinning disks of energy that should stay “open” and aligned, as they correspond to bundles of nerves, major organs, and areas of our energetic body that affect our emotional and physical well-being.

There are seven main chakras that run along your spine. Each of these seven main chakras has a corresponding number, name, color, specific area of the spine from the sacrum to the crown of the head, and health focus.

1st Chakra

Root

Color: Red

Location: Base of the spine

Meaning: Physical idendity, stability, grounding

A blocked root chakra can manifest as physical issues like arthritis, constipation, and bladder or colon problems, or emotionally through feeling insecure about finances or our basic needs and well-being. When it’s in alignment and open, we will feel grounded and secure, both physically and emotionally.

2nd Chakra

Sacral

Color: Orange

Location: Just bellow the belly button

Meaning: Sexuality, pleasure, creativity

Issues with the sacral chakra can be seen via problems with the associated organs, like urinary tract infections, lower back pain, and impotency. Emotionally, this chakra is connected to our feelings of self-worth, and even more specifically, our self-worth around pleasure, sexuality, and creativity.

3rd Chakra

Solar Plexus

Color: Yellow

Location: Upper abdomen

Meaning: Self-esteem, confidence

Blockages in the solar plexus chakra are often experienced through digestive issues like ulcers, heartburn, eating disorders, and indigestion. It’s the chakra of our personal power. This means it’s related to our self-esteem and self-confidence.

4th Chakra

Heart

Color: Green

Location: Center of the chest

Meaning: Love, compassion, humanity

Blocks in our heart chakra can manifest in our physical health through heart problems, asthma, and weight issues. But blocks are often seen even more clearly through people’s actions. People with heart chakra blocks often put others first, to their own detriment. It’s the middle of the seven chakras, so it bridges the gap between our upper and lower chakras, and it also represents our ability to love and connect to others. When out of alignment, it can make us feel lonely, insecure, and isolated.

5th Chakra

Throat

Color: Blue

Location: Center of the throat

Meaning: Communication, expression, rationality

The throat chakra is connected to our ability to communicate verbally. Voice and throat problems as well as any problems with everything surrounding that area, such as the teeth, gums, and mouth, can indicate a blockage. Blocks or misalignment can also be seen through dominating conversations, gossiping, speaking without thinking, and having trouble speaking your mind. When in alignment, you will speak and listen with compassion and feel confident when you speak because you know you are being true to yourself with your words.

6th Chakra

Third Eye

Color: Indigo

Location: Between the eyes, on the forehead

Meaning: Wisdom, intuition, imagination

The third eye chakra is located on the head, blockages can manifest as headaches, issues with sight or concentration, and hearing problems. People who have trouble listening to reality (who seem to “know it all”) or who are not in touch with their intuition may also have a block. When open and in alignment, it’s thought that people will follow their intuition and be able to see the big picture.

7th Chakra

Crown

Color: Violet / White

Location: Very top of the head

Meaning: Awareness, intelligence, enlightenment

The crown chakra is linked to every other chakra (and therefore every organ in this system), and so it affects not just all of those organs, but also our brain and nervous system. It is considered the chakra of enlightenment and represents our connection to our life’s purpose and spirituality. Those with a blocked crown chakra may seem narrow-minded, skeptical, or stubborn. When this chakra is open, it is thought to help keep all the other chakras open and to bring the person bliss and enlightenment.

WHAT ARE BRAINWAVE STATES ?

At the root of all our thoughts, emotions and behaviors is the communication between neurons within our brains. Brainwaves are produced by synchronized electrical pulses from masses of neurons communicating with each other.

Brainwaves are detected using sensors placed on the scalp. They are divided into bandwidths to describe their functions (below), but are best thought of as a continuous spectrum of consciousness; from slow, loud and functional - to fast, subtle, and complex.

Our brainwaves change according to what we’re doing and feeling. When slower brainwaves are dominant we can feel tired, slow, sluggish, or dreamy. The higher frequencies are dominant when we feel wired, or hyper-alert.

Brainwave speed is measured in Hertz (cycles per second) and they are divided into bands delineating slow, moderate, and fast waves.

Delta waves (.5 to 3 Hz)

Delta brainwaves are slow, loud brainwaves (low frequency and deeply penetrating, like a drum beat). They are generated in deepest meditation and dreamless sleep. Delta waves suspend external awareness and are the source of empathy. Healing and regeneration are stimulated in this state, and that is why deep restorative sleep is so essential to the healing process.

Theta waves (3 to 8 Hz)

Theta brainwaves occur most often in sleep but are also dominant in deep meditation. Theta is our gateway to learning, memory, and intuition. In theta, our senses are withdrawn from the external world and focused on signals originating from within. It is that twilight state which we normally only experience fleetingly as we wake or drift off to sleep. In theta we are in a dream; vivid imagery, intuition and information beyond our normal conscious awareness. It’s where we hold our ‘stuff’, our fears, troubled history, and nightmares.

Alpha waves (8 to 12 Hz)

Alpha brainwaves are dominant during quietly flowing thoughts, and in some meditative states. Alpha is ‘the power of now’, being here, in the present. Alpha is the resting state for the brain. Alpha waves aid overall mental coordination, calmness, alertness, mind/body integration and learning.

Beta waves (12 to 25 Hz)

Beta brainwaves dominate our normal waking state of consciousness when attention is directed towards cognitive tasks and the outside world. Beta is a ‘fast’ activity, present when we are alert, attentive, engaged in problem solving, judgment, decision making, or focused mental activity.

Beta brainwaves are further divided into three bands; Lo-Beta (Beta1, 12-15Hz) can be thought of as a 'fast idle', or musing. Beta (Beta2, 15-22Hz) is high engagement or actively figuring something out. Hi-Beta (Beta3, 22-25Hz) is highly complex thought, integrating new experiences, high anxiety, or excitement. Continual high frequency processing is not a very efficient way to run the brain, as it takes a tremendous amount of energy.

Gamma waves (25 to 70 Hz)

Gamma brainwaves are the fastest of brain waves (high frequency, like a flute), and relate to simultaneous processing of information from different brain areas. Gamma brainwaves pass information rapidly and quietly. The most subtle of the brainwave frequencies, the mind has to be quiet to access gamma.

Gamma was dismissed as 'spare brain noise' until researchers discovered it was highly active when in states of universal love, altruism, and the ‘higher virtues’. Gamma is also above the frequency of neuronal firing, so how it is generated remains a mystery. It is speculated that gamma rhythms modulate perception and consciousness, and that a greater presence of gamma relates to spiritual enlightenment and expanded consciousness.
